About this opportunity

The Bureau of Justice Assistance is soliciting applications for the FY 2026 Adult Treatment Court Program to support implementation and enhancement of court operations that reduce substance use and prevent overdoses among high-risk adults in the criminal justice system, with an SF-424 submission deadline of October 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET. All applicants must satisfy a mandatory 25 percent cost-sharing requirement.

Three funding categories are available with distinct award ceilings and eligible applicants. Categories 1 and 2 are open to state governments, county governments, city and township governments, federally recognized Native American Tribal governments, and other units of local government. Category 1 (Planning and Implementation) supports a six-month planning phase followed by new adult treatment court launch, with an award ceiling of up to $950,000 and nine anticipated awards. Category 2 (Enhancement) supports services at fully operational treatment courts, with an award ceiling of up to $1,025,750 and 30 anticipated awards. Category 3 (Statewide) is limited to state agencies and provides up to $2,500,000 for sustainable statewide improvement projects, with four anticipated awards. The total anticipated funding across all three categories is approximately $49.3 million.

The 48-month award period begins January 1, 2027. Adult Treatment Courts combine judicial supervision, substance use disorder treatment, mandatory and random drug testing, case management, sanctions and incentives, and recovery support services. Programs cannot serve individuals classified as violent offenders as defined in 34 U.S.C. 10613(a)(1). The complete application must be submitted through JustGrants by November 6, 2026 at 8:59 PM ET. Required components include a proposal narrative (maximum 10 pages, double-spaced), detailed budget, memoranda of understanding documenting partnerships for Categories 1 and 2, project timeline, and supporting documentation. The program is listed under CFDA 16.585 (Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program).
