About this opportunity
The Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is seeking applicants for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Carbon Storage Technology Operations & Research (CarbonSTORE) program. The primary goal is to establish carbon storage field laboratories where technology developers can test, validate, and demonstrate carbon storage technologies to accelerate their commercialization. Priority research areas include CO2 plume monitoring, cost-effective monitoring, well remediation and monitoring, pore space utilization, and mineralization approaches. The NOFO is anticipated to be issued in the first half of Fiscal Year 2025 and will be funded by the DOE Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management's Carbon Transport and Storage Research and Development program. Proposals may be solicited for field laboratories integrated with existing or potential geologic carbon storage sites, industrial acid gas injection sites, saltwater disposal wells, and CO2-enhanced oil recovery sites.
The funding instrument for this opportunity is a Cooperative Agreement, and eligible applicants are unrestricted. The Fossil Energy Research and Development program (CFDA 81.089) will provide the funding, with recent awards ranging from approximately $250,000 to over $100 million and project periods typically between 1-5 years. Projects are expected to be performed at locations across the United States, including research facilities, pilot plants, industrial sites, and field demonstrations.
