About this opportunity

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is offering the Awards for Faculty Institutional Support grant program, a limited competition to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) that have faculty or staff who received an NEH Awards for Faculty fellowship in fiscal year 2025. The purpose of this grant is to provide funding to the institutions to cover the costs of hiring replacement humanities instructors while the fellowship recipient is on leave. Eligible applicants are HBCUs and TCUs with faculty/staff who accepted an NEH Awards for Faculty fellowship in FY 2025. The application deadlines are February 3, 2025 and May 1, 2025.

The program offers fixed-amount grants up to $30,000 ($2,500 per full-time equivalent month) for a period of performance up to 24 months. NEH expects to make approximately 3 awards per deadline cycle, with a total anticipated funding of $90,000. The grants are funded under the Promotion of the Humanities Research program (CFDA 45.161) and can only be used to cover replacement instructors who are humanities experts, with no funding allowed for non-instructional costs except for substantial administrative responsibilities.

Synopsis

This limited competition supports institutions that have one or more faculty or staff member(s) who have been awarded an NEH Awards for Faculty at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) or an NEH Awards for Faculty at Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU) fellowship in federal fiscal year 2025. This program strengthens the capacity of HBCUs and TCUs to support humanities research on their campuses through funding for replacement instructors. NEH will provide funding at a fixed rate of $2,500 per month (full-time equivalent), up to $30,000. The fixed rate is pro-rated to correspond to the Awards for Faculty fellow's NEH period of performance and regular institutional load.
