About this opportunity

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks applicants for the Atopic Dermatitis Research Network (ADRN) program (U19 Clinical Trial Optional), a cooperative agreement mechanism with an application due date of September 24, 2026. The program supports research centers conducting interdisciplinary and translational research on skin immunology and atopic dermatitis, with emphasis on chronic skin inflammation and skin defense mechanisms.

NIAID will fund Centers that integrate clinical and translational research to improve understanding and management of atopic dermatitis. Research activities include investigating differences between individuals with atopic dermatitis and healthy controls in skin immune responses, structure, and function; conducting single-site pilot trials and observational studies; and providing opportunities for junior investigators to build research background and foster independence.

Eligible applicant categories include higher education institutions (public and private), 501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3) nonprofits, independent school districts, state and local governments, tribal governments (federally and non-federally recognized), tribal organizations, special district governments, public or Indian housing authorities, for-profit organizations, and small businesses. Foreign organizations and non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are ineligible. Non-domestic components and foreign collaborations are not permitted.

The program operates under CFDA 93.855 (Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research). Applications are subject to standard NIH scientific merit and programmatic review by initial review groups and the National Advisory Allergy and Infectious Diseases Council, with evaluation criteria encompassing scientific significance, experimental design adequacy, investigator competency, resource availability, budget justification, and relevance to program objectives.
