About this opportunity

Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) 2026 – Summary

The U.S. Department of State, through the U.S. Embassy in Libreville, is seeking innovative project proposals designed and led by alumni of U.S. government-funded exchange programs to strengthen ties between the United States and Gabon. Applicants must submit teams comprising at least two alumni from programs such as IVLP, YALI, Fulbright, Humphrey Fellowship, Mandela Washington Fellowship, or OEP. Projects should address local challenges, advance U.S. foreign policy priorities, and demonstrate measurable outcomes in areas including entrepreneurship, technology and innovation, education, civic engagement, and environmental stewardship, with special consideration given to projects highlighting Freedom250—the celebration of America's 250th anniversary. Evaluation criteria include quality and feasibility (30 points), organizational capacity and grant history (25 points), project planning ability (20 points), budget appropriateness (10 points), monitoring and evaluation strength (10 points), and sustainability (5 points). The proposal deadline is May 16, 2026, with all applications requiring SAM.gov registration and a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) prior to submission.

Two awards are anticipated, with individual grants ranging from $5,000 to $35,000 each and up to $70,000 in total available funding. Projects must be completed within a twelve-month performance period, with commencement scheduled for October 2026. All project activities must take place in Gabon, with eligible applicants including individuals, nonprofits, educational institutions, and governmental or international organizations, though only one nonprofit entity may serve as the prime recipient. Cost sharing is encouraged but not required, and applications must include mandatory federal forms (SF-424, SF-424A, SF-424B), a three-page proposal, detailed budget with justification, key personnel resumes, letters of support, and a comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation Performance Monitoring Plan.
