About this opportunity
The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, via Embassy Vientiane, is soliciting grant applications from individuals to implement alumni engagement projects under the 2026 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund with an application due date of August 1, 2026.
All projects must celebrate and promote the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America (Freedom 250) and align with administration policy goals to make the U.S. safer, stronger, and more prosperous, or defend freedom of speech. Projects must support the development of mutual understanding between the United States and other countries in areas important to U.S. interests.
Eligible applicants are individuals. The program operates under CFDA 19.022 (Educational and Cultural Exchange Programs Appropriation Overseas Grants) and is administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs under authorities granted by the Fulbright-Hays Act. Funding is reviewed and recommended on a yearly basis pending availability of funds.
Recent awards under this program have ranged from approximately $2 thousand to $500 thousand, with representative Freedom 250–related grants including $114,605 for a summit convening exchange alumni from Western Balkan countries and $45 thousand for a three-day alumni summit in Serbia. Award amounts and period of performance vary by specific award terms and conditions. Recipients must maintain financial records and supporting documentation for three years from the date of final expenditure report submission, per Department of State Standard Terms and Conditions.
