About this opportunity
The U.S. Mission to Tanzania, under the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, seeks proposals for public service projects developed and implemented by teams of at least two alumni of U.S. government-funded exchange programs. Eligible applicants must be non-U.S. citizen alumni who will submit proposals as individuals rather than through organizations, though organizations may serve as implementing partners. Projects must advance U.S. foreign policy objectives and support community development in priority areas including education, youth leadership, cultural initiatives, entrepreneurship, English language capacity, AI applications, and digital innovation. Proposals are evaluated on five criteria: quality and feasibility (30 points), organizational capacity (25 points), project planning (20 points), budget (10 points), and monitoring and evaluation (10 points), with an additional 5 points for sustainability. The application deadline is May 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EAT, with questions accepted until May 10, 2026, and proposals submitted to drs_alumni@state.gov.
Two awards are anticipated, each not exceeding $35,000, for a total of $70,000 in available funding. Projects must be completed within 12 months, with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2026, and all activities must take place outside U.S. territories, primarily benefiting foreign national communities. The budget cannot allocate more than 15 percent to travel and lodging, with speaker and trainer fees capped at 30 percent of the total budget or a maximum of $250 per day, and project management fees limited to 15 percent of the total budget.
