About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is seeking applications for the Alaska Native-Serving and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions Education Competitive Grants Program. The purpose of this program is to promote and strengthen the ability of eligible institutions to carry out education, applied research, and related community development programs in food, agricultural, natural resources, and human sciences. Priority will be given to projects that enhance educational equity, strengthen institutional capacities, and prepare students for careers in agricultural and related fields. Eligible applicants must be Alaska Native-Serving Institutions (with a minimum 20% Alaska Native enrollment) or Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions (with a minimum 10% Native Hawaiian enrollment) that meet specific Department of Education criteria. Applications are due by March 27, 2025.

The program provides approximately $5,491,215 in total funding, with individual awards ranging from $150,000 to $500,000 for Standard Grants and $300,000 to $1,500,000 for Collaborative Grants. Projects are expected to run for 36 to 48 months and must incorporate leadership skills development and demonstrate clear, measurable outcomes aligned with the program's goals. No matching funds are required, but indirect costs are limited to 30% of the total federal funds awarded.

Synopsis

The purpose of this program is to promote and strengthen the ability of Alaska Native-Serving Institutions and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions to carry out education, applied research, and related community development programs. NIFA intends this program to address educational needs, as determined by each institution, within a broadly defined arena of food and agricultural sciences-related disciplines. Priority will be given to those projects that enhance educational equity for underrepresented students; strengthen institutional educational capacities; prepare students for careers related to the food, agricultural, and natural resource systems of the United States; and maximize the development and use of resources to improve food and agricultural sciences teaching programs.
