About this opportunity

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research seeks applicants for partial support of conferences and workshops in basic research science areas, with rolling acceptance of proposals but requiring submission at least six months prior to the event start date. Eligible applicants are U.S. institutions of higher education (both public and private) and nonprofit organizations as defined in 2 CFR 200.1, including foreign public entities and foreign organizations operated primarily for scientific, educational, service, charitable, or similar purposes in the public interest; for-profit organizations are ineligible. AFOSR funding covers up to 50 percent of total event costs, with encouragement for funding requests in the $5,000 to $100,000 range and most awards limited to one year duration. Approximately $2 million is available annually across the portfolio. Proposals must address AFOSR research interests as described in the most recent version of "Research Interests of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research" posted on Grants.gov and must emphasize Gold Standard Science principles per Executive Orders 14303 and 14332. Conferences and workshops must bring experts together to discuss recent research or educational findings or expose researchers and advanced graduate students to new research and educational techniques. Evaluation emphasizes technical merit, relevance to AFOSR research goals and Department of Defense missions, and alignment with program priorities. Applicants must submit electronically through Grants.gov using the SF 424 (R&R) form with project narratives, detailed budgets and justifications, biographical information for covered individuals, current and pending support documentation, security questionnaires, research security training certifications, and compliance attestations regarding malign foreign talent recruitment and prohibited entities. All covered individuals require ORCID numbers and must complete security training within 12 months of proposal submission. Recipients must provide annual and final technical performance reports in Federal-wide Research Progress Performance Report format, acknowledge AFOSR support in all materials, and maintain records for three years post-award. Awards are made as grants or cooperative agreements under 10 U.S.C. 4001 and subject to 2 CFR 200 cost principles and Department of Work terms and conditions.
