About this opportunity
The National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) is soliciting R01 research grant applications for HIV/AIDS research within NIDCD mission areas, with an application due date of July 5, 2026. This opportunity is expired early effective immediately in accordance with NOT-OD-26-029; prospective applicants should verify current status before committing resources.
Eligible applicants include public and private higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3) and non-501(c)(3)), for-profit organizations, small businesses, state and local governments, tribal governments and tribal organizations, and special district governments. Research must address high-priority HIV/AIDS areas outlined by the NIH Office of AIDS Research within NIDCD's scientific domains: hearing, balance, taste, smell, voice, speech, and language. Applications proposing clinical trials are restricted to low-risk trials only.
The grant mechanism is R01 (research project grant). Funding supports allowable direct costs including salaries, equipment, supplies, and travel, as well as indirect institutional costs. The NIH peer review process evaluates applications through technical panels composed of scientific authorities, followed by review by the National Deafness and Other Communication Disorders Advisory Council. Approved applications compete on merit basis for available funds. Evaluation criteria include scientific merit and significance, technical adequacy of experimental design, investigator competency, adequacy of environment and resources, budget necessity and justification, relevance to program objectives, innovation, and risk to human subjects.
The opportunity falls under CFDA 93.173 (Research Related to Deafness and Communication Disorders). Research may be conducted at eligible institutions throughout the United States and its territories.
