About this opportunity
The Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training (ARRT) Program - Employment, administered by the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living through its National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), seeks to fund advanced research training programs for doctoral-level researchers focused on employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Eligible applicants are public and private institutions of higher education that can provide multidisciplinary training emphasizing scientific methodology, research experience with qualified researchers and disability organizations, academic mentorship, and facilitate scholarly publication and conference participation. Key requirements include recruiting trainees with targeted diversity plans for individuals with disabilities, ensuring trainees commit at least 80 percent of their time to training activities, maintaining a minimum 12-month training period, and complying with Section 508 and WCAG 2.0/2.1 AA accessibility standards. Applications will be evaluated on five weighted criteria: importance of the problem (15 points), design of training activities (50 points), plan of operation (10 points), project staff quality (15 points), and adequacy and accessibility of resources (10 points). Critical deadlines include an informational conference call on February 25, 2026, a letter of intent deadline of March 17, 2026, and a full application due date of April 13, 2026.
NIDILRR anticipates awarding one grant totaling $250,000 per budget period with a floor of $245,000, spanning a 36-month project period divided into three 12-month budget periods, with an anticipated project start date of June 1, 2026. Indirect costs are capped at 8 percent of modified total direct costs, excluding tuition, stipends, and fees, and no cost sharing or matching is required. Applications exceeding 40 double-spaced pages, requesting budgets over $250,000 in any year, or proposing project periods exceeding 36 months will be rejected during initial screening. Performance will be conducted at the applicant institution of higher education in collaboration with disability organizations and stakeholders. The project officer is Courtney Ward-Sutton at (202) 240-3164.
