The program builds and strengthens community infrastructure and readiness to support early intervention, community-led suicide prevention, and resiliency efforts for adults at risk for suicide through a broad-based public health approach emphasizing enhanced collaboration with key community stakeholders, awareness-raising of available suicide prevention resources, and implementation of lethal means safety.
Eligible applicants include domestic private and public non-profit organizations (including faith-based organizations), states, political subdivisions of states, consortia of political subdivisions, public or private institutions of higher education, Indian tribes or tribal organizations, federally recognized tribal governments, health facilities and hospitals, programs operated under contract or award with the Indian Health Service, state or local education agencies, and tribal education agencies.
The program operates under CFDA 93.532 (Center for Mental Health Services Projects of Regional and National Significance). Awards are made directly by SAMHSA following merit review, program analysis, and concurrence by the CMHS National Advisory Council. Applicants must retain records for three years; records shall be retained beyond the three-year period if final audit has not been completed or findings resolved. No specific award ceiling, floor, or expected number of awards is stated in the forecast materials.
