About this opportunity
The U.S. Embassy Sarajevo, through the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is soliciting proposals for the 2026 Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF), which supports community development and educational projects developed and implemented by U.S. government-funded exchange program alumni in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Eligible applicants must include at least two exchange alumni with one designated as team lead, and projects must celebrate Freedom 250 (the U.S. 250th birthday) while advancing U.S. policy objectives such as strengthening security and prosperity, celebrating American excellence, or defending freedom of speech. Key requirements include addressing at least one of three core objectives: convening alumni networks, strengthening alumni-government relationships, or supporting alumni leadership development. Evaluation criteria focus on relevance to Embassy priorities, implementation plans, degree of alumni involvement, local partner participation, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, communication strategies, and budget justification. The application deadline is April 30, 2026, at 23:59 CET, with a maximum of two awards anticipated and award notifications expected by August 22, 2026.
Individual project budgets must range from $5,000 to $35,000, with a standard 12-month performance period and anticipated project start within 45 days of funding notification. All project activities must take place outside U.S. territories and primarily benefit foreign national communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina through partnerships with subject matter experts, community organizations, academic institutions, businesses, government entities, or non-governmental organizations. Applicants must submit required federal forms (SF-424, SF-424A, SF-424B), the official AEIF 2026 Proposal Form and Budget Form, curriculum vitae for key personnel, and letters of support from local partners via email to SarajevoPDSGrants@state.gov, and must maintain active SAM.gov registration with a valid Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) prior to submission.
