About this opportunity
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) within the Department of Commerce is seeking applications for the Fiscal Year 2025 Pacific Islands Region Marine Education and Training (MET) Mini-Grant Program. The program aims to improve communication, education, and training on marine resource issues throughout the Pacific Islands region and increase scientific education for marine-related professions among coastal community residents, including indigenous Pacific islanders, Native Hawaiians, and other underserved communities. Projects should focus on five priority areas: marine science and technology education, fisheries and seafood-related training, outreach to educate consumers about sustainable fishing, technology improvements for data collection and fishing practices, and projects incorporating local/traditional knowledge. Applications are due by February 28, 2025 at 5:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time.
The program will provide approximately $150,000 in total funding, with 10-15 awards anticipated between $10,000-$15,000 each. Projects must be conducted in Hawaii, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, or American Samoa and should have a recommended 12-month duration with an anticipated start date of October 1, 2025.
