The 1890 Institution Teaching, Research, and Extension Capacity Building Grants (CBG) Program is a federal grant opportunity administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The program aims to strengthen the teaching, research, and extension capacities of eligible 1890 Land-Grant Institutions, including Tuskegee University, West Virginia State University, and Central State University. Eligible institutions may submit up to 12 Standard/Collaborative and 3 Professional Development applications that address at least one of the CBG priority areas, such as human health, nutrition security, bioenergy/biofuels, and climate smart agriculture. The application deadline is August 6, 2024.

The CBG program has approximately $28 million available in FY 2024 and expects to make around 60 awards. Award amounts can range from $100,000 to $600,000, depending on the grant type, with project periods of up to 36 months. The places of performance are anticipated to be the recipient 1890 land-grant institutions across various states.
