About this forecast
Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division is procuring a Roll MOI System, a measuring fixture that mounts on a KSR6000 machine to conduct center of gravity and moment of inertia testing on test articles. The fixture enables measurement of two axes of center of gravity and three axes of moment of inertia, including roll MOI via air bearing oscillation, with an estimated solicitation release date of July 1, 2026, and an estimated award date of October 1, 2026.
The estimated award value ranges from $2 million to $7.5 million under a fixed-price purchase order instrument at NAWCWD, China Lake, Ridgecrest, California. The procurement requires only two handling operations (load and unload) compared to existing processes, eliminating the need for vertical positioning of test articles and reducing operational complexity.
Forecast text
The Roll MOI Fixture would mount on top of the KSR6000. The test article would only need to be handled once to load it into the Roll MOI Fixture. In the same process you currently use, the KSR6000 measurements would yield two axes of CG and one axis of MOI. The test article would then be rolled in the mechanical bearing cage fixture to yield the third axis of CG (test article CG must be within the full scale capacity of the KSR6000 machine) and the second axis of MOI. To measure the third axis of MOI (roll MOI), the test article is left in place and air is supplied to the MOI roll instrument’s air bearings. A one-degree amplitude roll MOI oscillation is initiated, the oscillation time period is read and the third axis of MOI is calculated. Using only one more handling operation, the test article is removed. This results in only one load/unload handling cycle and eliminates the need to position test article vertically.
