About this opportunity

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a sole source justification notice for the procurement of xMAP Food Allergen Detection Assay Test Kits for their Eastern Laboratory in Athens, Georgia. The agency awarded a firm-fixed price purchase order valued at $98,000 to Radix Biosolutions LLC for specialized test kits capable of simultaneously analyzing 15 common food allergens in ready-to-eat products. The sole source justification is based on the unique qualifications of these test kits, which are the only ones validated for the USDA-FSIS Allergen Verification Program and fully compatible with existing BioPlex instrumentation at the laboratory. Market research demonstrated that alternative vendors' products do not meet FSIS's specific performance, throughput, or platform compatibility requirements, making these kits critical for maintaining laboratory efficiency and regulatory compliance. The contract was awarded on August 4, 2025, with the procurement supporting the Office of Public Health and Safety's food safety inspection mission. The notice allows interested parties to submit capability statements by September 4, 2025, though the government retains sole discretion in determining whether future competitive procurements will be conducted for this requirement.
