About this opportunity
The U.S. Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants is conducting market research to identify qualified sources for whole-rock geochemical analysis, with responses due July 24, 2026 by 1700 PDT. This is a sources sought announcement, not a request for proposal or quote; the Government is not committed to award and will not reimburse response costs.
The contractor will prepare and analyze approximately 75 rock samples at their own facility, with performance extending from award date through July 31, 2027. Work location is not specified in the sources sought announcement; the Statement of Work indicates samples support the USGS Alaska Science Center's regional geology and mineral resources research.
Sample preparation requires crushing and splitting to at least 75% passing 2mm and pulverizing to at least 85% passing 75 micrometers, with mandatory homogenization and equipment cleaning between samples. Analytical methods include major elements by fusion decomposition and XRF; carbon and sulfur by Leco; base metals by four-acid digest and ICP-MS; trace elements by Na-peroxide or Li-borate fusion and ICP-MS; volatile elements by aqua regia and ICP-MS; and fluorine by element-specific fusion and selective ion electrode with lower detection limit not exceeding 100 ppm and upper limit of at least 20%. Lithium must be reportable by at least one method with upper detection limit of at least 10,000 ppm. Contractor must deliver results as digital data in CSV or spreadsheet format including QA/QC and certificate of analysis. A Technical Liaison will inspect every sample for 100% compliance; work failing to meet requirements must be redone at no additional government cost. All data produced belongs to the Government. No security clearances or government computer access required.
NAICS code 541380 applies; size standard is $19 million. Responses in brochure format only, submitted by email to tracy_huot@ios.doi.gov.
