Notice text

The USDA Forest Service has a requirement to provide support in the evaluation study of WFDS-LS. The contractor will collaborate with the Forest Service Research Combustion Engineer to complete the following Tasks:

1. Create a test matrix for comparing WFDS-LS and WFDS-PB when the sources of buoyancy generated flow and smoke plume rise are stationary burners (i.e., there is no spreading fire). These tests will be used to evaluate how well the reduced fire-physics model (WFDS-LS) reproduces the results from simulations in which combustion is modeled with higher physical fidelity (WFDS-PS). The burnres are stationary, no fire spread model is used. A range of burner configurations and heat release rate will be considered in different ambient wind environments.

2. Conduct the WFDS-LS and WFDS-PB simulations of the test matrix created in Task 1. Comparisons between WFDS-LS and WFDS-PB will include measures of plume rise, smoke plume envelope, and velocity fields. The influence of interacting plumes, originating from multiple burners, on the overall smoke plume development will also be compared.

The USDA Forest Service is anticipating the period of performance will be from date of award to January 31, 2020.

This award will be awarded to:
