About this opportunity
The Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command has published a Special Notice for the VIRGINIA Class Tailcone Synopsis, posted on September 17, 2025, with a due date of October 2, 2025. This is a synopsis posting and not a formal request for proposal, meaning responses are not required and the Government will not reimburse any responses provided. The notice pertains to a proposed acquisition for manufacturing VIRGINIA Class submarine Advanced Material Version 5 Tailcones. The procurement falls under the Ship Building and Repairing NAICS category (336611) and the Ship and Boat Propulsion Components PSC category (2010). This opportunity does not utilize any set-aside designations, making it open to all eligible contractors.
The primary objective of this procurement is to establish a follow-on single-award Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract with a five-year ordering period, to be awarded competitively. The Government requires a minimum of one Tailcone with a maximum limit of 20 Tailcones over the entire five-year contract period. Delivery Orders will be issued based on pre-priced unit pricing for Contract Line Item Numbers 0001 through 0005, with each order requiring between one and four Tailcones. Since this is a synopsis only, contractors are not expected to submit proposals at this time, and the notice serves as advance notification of the upcoming competitive procurement opportunity. The specialized nature of submarine components suggests that eligible contractors will likely need relevant experience and capabilities in naval shipbuilding and advanced materials manufacturing.
