About this opportunity
The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime is seeking Night Vision Viewers (NSN 5855-01-691-4656, Part Number 936636/936636-1) as components for the Joint Assault Bridge (JAB) Vision System used on M1A1 Abrams tank-based bridge-laying vehicles. The DVE Wide Camera serves as the front camera of the vision system, featuring three infrared cameras with overlapping 40-degree horizontal fields of view that combine digitally to create a 107-degree panoramic view for operators conducting driving and bridge-launching operations. This pre-solicitation notice is not an open solicitation but rather a source approval opportunity, requiring potential contractors to undergo qualification testing and evaluation to become approved sources. Technical data packages are not available as they are proprietary to the current sole source provider, and source approval does not guarantee future contract awards. The deadline for responses to this pre-solicitation notice is August 6, 2025.
This procurement does not utilize any set-aside designations and is currently sole-sourced to DRS Network & Imaging Systems LLC, which owns the proprietary technical data package for manufacturing these specialized night vision components. The base quantity requirement is 5 units with an option for an additional 5 units (100% option quantity), totaling a potential maximum of 10 night vision viewers. The Joint Assault Bridge system provides critical gap-crossing capabilities with a Military Load Classification of 115 and utilizes hydraulic mechanisms to deploy scissoring bridges for battlefield mobility operations. Companies interested in competing for future solicitations must complete the Source Approval Request process through the Army's TACOM Source Approval Program, though qualification as an approved source only provides eligibility to bid on subsequent contract opportunities. The procurement falls under NAICS code 334290 (Other Communications Equipment Manufacturing) and PSC 5855 (Night Vision Equipment).
