About this opportunity

The Federal Contract Opportunity involves a study on Vessel-Generated Underwater Radiated Noise Comparison. The contractor will be expected to collect acoustic data/vessel noise, possibly using mobile autonomous platforms or fixed moored acoustic recorders. The total funding for this project is $200,000 for a maximum duration of 18 months, with the kick-off meetings expected to occur within two weeks of the finalization of the award.

Products and Services to be provided:

  1. Collection of acoustic data/vessel noise.
  2. Possible use of mobile autonomous platforms or fixed moored acoustic recorders.
  3. Comparison of vessel Underwater Radiated Noise (URN).
  4. Possible additional services contributing to the objectives of the study.
  5. Installation of measurement equipment in the ferry's engine room (subject to operator's discretion).

The Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Maritime Environmental and Technical Assistance (META) program is issuing this request for proposals (RFP) for conducting a study comparing the underwater radiated noise (URN) signals from two ferries operating in a shallow water, nearshore environment in Portland, Maine.   The objective of the study will be to compare URN emissions from a ferry currently operating with diesel propulsion versus a new-build, replacement ferry operating on battery electric propulsion in the same environmental conditions (route, season, purpose).
