About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard has issued a Special Notice for the repair of a supply fan motor aboard the USCGC Stone (WMSL 758), a Coast Guard cutter stationed in North Charleston, South Carolina. This procurement opportunity is set aside for small businesses and involves comprehensive repair services for a 3-phase, 440 VAC, 60Hz supply fan motor that has suffered winding failure. The Notice was posted on June 23, 2025, with responses due by June 28, 2025, indicating an expedited timeline for this critical vessel maintenance requirement. The opportunity falls under NAICS code 336611 for Ship Building and Repairing and PSC code J020 for maintenance and repair of ship and marine equipment. The Coast Guard's Surface Forces Logistics Center is managing this procurement through the Department of Homeland Security.
The objective is to restore the failed supply fan motor to full operational status through an extensive repair process that includes disassembly, inspection, electrical testing, rewinding, dynamic balancing, and reassembly with new bearings and seals. Contractors must complete the repair work and deliver the restored motor to the USCGC Stone by July 7, 2025, providing a tight turnaround time of approximately two weeks from the response deadline. Security requirements mandate that vendors possess valid Real ID-compliant identification to access the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Base Charleston, with Coast Guard personnel available to provide escort services to the vessel. The repair work requires specialized capabilities in marine electrical equipment, including core loss testing, sandblasting, rewinding, and precision balancing. Only small businesses are eligible to participate in this set-aside opportunity, with MKCM Bryan Briggs serving as the primary point of contact for technical questions and coordination.
