About this opportunity

The Department of Energy, through Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS), is seeking partners to develop and commercialize UAS tracking software via a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) or technology license. The software, currently at Technology Readiness Level 5, can detect and track small unmanned aerial systems in complex environments using commercial off-the-shelf cameras and is sensor-agnostic. MSTS is interested in collaborating with non-federal entities including businesses, industries, non-profits, universities, and government agencies to leverage diverse talents and capabilities. Interested parties must contact the Technology Partnerships and Intellectual Property Office at TPIP@nv.doe.gov with the subject line "UAS Tracking Software" by October 8, 2025. The solicitation emphasizes that submitting a response does not create any implied or express contract and MSTS is not obligated to review, evaluate, or make an award.

The pre-solicitation notice indicates no specific set-aside designation for this opportunity. The software is based on MSTS's intellectual property portfolio around turbulence enhancement algorithms, suggesting proprietary technology as a key component of the potential collaboration. While no specific award value or budget range is mentioned, the opportunity is categorized under NAICS code 54171 for Research and Development in Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences. The technology is positioned for potential commercialization, with MSTS seeking partners who can help advance the software's development and market potential. The collaboration aims to further develop the UAS tracking software beyond its current prototype stage, with potential for significant technological advancement in unmanned aerial system detection and tracking capabilities.
