About this opportunity
The Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is seeking a contractor to provide a hybrid Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) - Fixed Wing (FW) Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS) for scientific data collection. The solicitation requires a commercially available UAS capable of operating beyond visual line of sight (BLVOS) and deployable from a vessel. The contractor must integrate two specified camera models and potentially other sensors to enable reliable scientific data gathering. This contract opportunity is focused on advanced unmanned aircraft technology with specific operational requirements for marine and scientific research environments. The solicitation was posted on January 24, 2025, with proposals due by February 7, 2025, providing potential bidders approximately two weeks to prepare and submit their responses.
This contract opportunity is designated as a Total Small Business set-aside, specifically categorized under Aircraft Manufacturing (NAICS 336411) and Unmanned Aircraft (PSC 1550). While specific award values are not detailed in the solicitation, the contract appears designed to support NOAA's scientific research missions requiring sophisticated aerial data collection capabilities. The UAS system must be capable of deployment from a vessel, suggesting potential maritime or coastal research applications. The requirement for beyond visual line of sight operation indicates a need for advanced technological capabilities in unmanned aerial systems. Although the exact timeline for service delivery is not specified, the comprehensive technical requirements suggest a complex and specialized procurement process targeting small businesses with advanced UAS technologies and scientific data collection expertise.
