About this opportunity
The U.S. Coast Guard is preparing to procure multi-mission rotary-wing aircraft and issued a Request for Information due October 8, 2026, with no set-aside. The government updated vendor guidance on September 14, 2026, to address technical and compatibility questions, signaling active market research ahead of a formal solicitation.
The Coast Guard seeks aircraft capable of three mission profiles: Aerial Intercept (detection and tracking at 140+ knots at 10,000 feet MSL with transportability via USAF strategic airlift C-17/C-5), Airborne Use of Force (armed operations and non-compliant vessel interdiction in temperatures from -13°F to 122°F up to 12,000 feet with marinized shipboard qualification), and Maritime Search and Rescue (300+ nautical mile range, 120+ knot cruise speed, 125 nautical mile combat radius with integrated 600-pound rescue hoist).
Aircraft must achieve FAA certification for rotary-wing VFR and IFR operations, deliver a minimum 3,000-pound useful payload, demonstrate dual-engine performance margins, achieve three-hour flight endurance with 20+ minute fuel reserve, support night vision goggle compatibility, and feature 4-axis automatic flight control systems. Folded dimensions must not exceed 42 feet length, 10 feet width, and 13.4 feet height for shipboard integration. Aircraft must integrate USCG/DHS/DoD communications systems including secure platforms such as the ARC-210 and cryptologic secure communications, and must be compatible with the USCG's TALON grid system (6-foot diameter honeycomb stainless steel deck fixture conforming to STANAG 1276 NATO standards). Avionics must employ modular open systems approach compliance, surface-mapping radar, ADS-B, and TCAS. This is a new requirement with no incumbent contractor. Vendors responding to the RFI must submit technical specifications, configuration modifications, pricing estimates, government contract vehicle options, and detailed performance data by October 8, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.
