About this opportunity
The Defense Logistics Agency Aviation is seeking to procure 15 units of transponder sets under NSN 7R-5826-016863597-RQ for radio navigation equipment applications. This procurement requires engineering source approval from the design control activity due to the flight-critical nature of the equipment and the need to maintain part quality through approved manufacturing sources. Only previously Government-approved sources have been solicited, as these sources retain essential data rights, manufacturing knowledge, and technical expertise that are not economically available to the Government. Companies that are not currently approved sources must submit detailed qualification information in accordance with NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support procedures and obtain Government engineering approval before contract award. The pre-solicitation notice was posted on September 9, 2025, with a due date of October 27, 2025.
This opportunity does not utilize any set-aside designations and follows full and open competition principles, though practically limited to approved sources due to technical requirements. The contract specifies delivery FOB origin for the 15 transponder units, though specific award values or budget ranges are not disclosed in the notice. The procurement timeline indicates that approval of new sources typically requires significant time that would delay contract award, emphasizing the preference for existing qualified suppliers. No incumbent contractors are specifically named in the solicitation, though the restriction to previously approved sources suggests a limited pool of eligible vendors. The technical complexity and flight-critical classification of these transponder sets indicate this is likely a higher-value procurement requiring specialized manufacturing capabilities and Government oversight throughout the acquisition process.
