About this opportunity

The University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is seeking domestic sources that can fabricate and deliver forged aluminum castings to support the High Field Test Facility Dipole project managed by the Department of Energy. The castings must be able to be forged into cylinders measuring 1300.0mm outside diameter, 1120.0mm inside diameter, 998mm width, and 0.1mm cylindricity from aluminum alloy ALUM_7075-T6. Responses to the pre-solicitation RFI are due by March 26, 2024 and will be evaluated based on the respondent's ability to domestically produce castings meeting the required specifications.

There is no set-aside designated for this procurement. The main NAICS code applicable is 332117 and PSC code is 2530. The castings will be used to construct aluminum shells for a superconducting magnet assembly, with each shell requiring a single casting in the shape of a cylinder 1300mm in diameter. The RFI does not provide award values or quantities, but the drawings indicate precision tolerances will be required.

Notice text

The University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is conducting market research to identify potential sources that possess the capabilities and experience necessary to fabricate and deliver forged aluminum castings in support of the High Field Test Facility Dipole project (TFD).

A key component of the TFD project are the aluminum shells, which will contain a superconducting magnet assembly. Each of these shells must be fabricated from a single large forged aluminum casting in the shape of a cylinder, which is described in the attachments. LBNL is seeking a domestic source for the castings. LBNL drawing number DF-1001-0333A demonstrates the TFD shells that will be fabricated from these castings.
