About this opportunity

This Special Notice from the Department of Energy (DOE) announces a technology licensing opportunity for SIMPLE, an innovative software tool developed by Idaho National Laboratory (INL) that optimizes the modernization process for industrial plants. SIMPLE utilizes a unique tree-structure model to analyze and suggest optimal scopes and sequences for modernization projects, incorporating different components such as hardware, software, and human activities to create a comprehensive plan. The technology is designed to streamline the modernization process, maximize return on investment, minimize risk, and shorten deployment time, making it suitable for various industries beyond plant modernization, including utilities, energy, management consulting, government agencies, and net-zero initiatives.

The purpose of this Special Notice is to invite businesses, particularly small businesses, to explore licensing opportunities for SIMPLE and partner with INL to access this pioneering technology. The technology is currently at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 1, with a provisional patent filing in place. Interested parties can learn more about the licensing opportunities and the support provided by INL on their website, and can contact Andrew Rankin at td@inl.gov for specific discussions on how their business can benefit from this technology.
