About this opportunity

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Training Division, Ballistic Research Facility has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking market research data on 5.56mm/.223 caliber suppressors, muzzle devices, and training suppressors. Responses are due by close of business Friday, February 20, 2026. The FBI intends to use gathered information to formulate final requirements and acquisition strategies for a future Request for Proposal (RFP). Key preliminary requirements include suppressors compatible with the FBI's existing fleet of 5.56 NATO carbines (11.5" barrel, semi-automatic direct gas impingement, 1/2x28 threaded muzzle), with a minimum 10 dB noise reduction capability, low back pressure or high flow rate design, quick-detach design with positive locking collar, and non-modular construction. Physical specifications must not exceed 6" added length, 20 ounces in weight, or 1.8" in diameter, with availability in Flat Dark Earth and black matte finishes. Training suppressors must be similar in appearance and dimensions, available in blue, compatible with UTM or Simunition conversion bolts, and utilize identical quick-detach mounts.

This RFI is strictly informational and does not constitute a solicitation or commitment to award a contract; no funds are available for response preparation. There is no set-aside designation applicable to this opportunity. Respondents must submit company information, business size, GSA Schedule status, product specifications including physical characteristics, dB reduction measurements, shift and repeatability data, pricing information, manufacturing location, and relevant NAICS codes to the Contracting Officer, Holly Cloud, at hcloud@fbi.gov. The RFI requires a 10,000-round warranty on suppressors and does not specify anticipated quantities or total award values at this stage, as this is preliminary market research intended to inform future competitive solicitation strategy. Vendors interested in this opportunity should note the NAICS code 332994 (Small Arms, Ordnance, and Ordnance Accessories Manufacturing) and PSC code 1095 (Miscellaneous Weapons) for classification purposes.
