DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Starved Rock and Marseilles Lock and Dam Upper Bulkhead Recesses. The project includes installation of bulkhead recesses (BHR) on the upper end of the land and river walls. The BHR will be installed in the recess area that currently accepts emergency miter gates (used for dewatering the lock chamber in the past). Additionally, a new concrete sill will need to be installed adjacent to the existing emergency miter gate sill. The work shall include concrete removal (wire sawing & coring), concrete placement (to include fabrication and placement of pre-cast panels), rebar and anchor installation, drilled shafts, and fabrication and placement of the steel bulkhead recess. Underwater anchor installation and concrete placement will be required. This will be a construction contract to be primarily constructed during a navigation restriction period from early-June 2019 through late-August/early-September 2019. The restriction period will most likely allow for construction activity during daytime hours and then open up to pass navigation traffic at night. Construction will need to take place at both sites concurrently. Construction will take place in the wet, however, there is potential that cofferdams may be utilized for localized dewatering. The work is anticipated to be performed from a floating plant. It is anticipated that prior to construction, the existing emergency gates will be removed by government personnel. It is expected that divers will be necessary to support concrete sill & precast panel installation.
