This pre-solicitation synopsis and notice of intent is not a request for proposals or quotes.
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) intends to issue a Firm-Fixed-Price solicitation on a full-and-open basis. NRL in Washington DC has onsite a vacuum chamber that is approximately 1.7 meters diameter and 5 meters long used for plasma physics research.
The prospective Contractor shall provide a mechanical design of the mounting structure to support a positioning system inside the vacuum chamber, which has two positioners with 5 meters of travel, 4 positioners with 1 meter of travel. The Contractor shall measure the existing chamber mounting brackets.
The prospective Contractor shall provide a mechanical design of the integrated positioning system. The positioning system shall have a positional accuracy of at least 1 millimeter on each axis. The positioning system shall operate in temperatures as high as 200 degrees Celsius.
The prospective Contractor shall develop the space chamber positioning system with a vacuum compatible mounting structure and stepper motor based positioning system comprising two independent 3-dimensional positioners spanning approximately 5 meters by 1 meter by 1 meter, for use in the plasma confinement chamber.
The prospective Contractor shall install the finished product on site at NRL DC and test the system on site prior to acceptance.
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this requirement is 333999.
All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agnecy.
