About this opportunity
The Military Sealift Command, an agency within the Department of the Navy, has issued a Sources Sought Notice for a Mid-Term Availability (MTA) ship repair project on the USNS ALAN SHEPARD (T-AKE 3). This special notice is not a solicitation and will not result in contract awards; rather, it is designed to identify potential contractors capable of performing the work. The USNS ALAN SHEPARD is a 41,000-gross-ton vessel measuring 210 meters in length, and the MTA is scheduled to run from September 5, 2026, through October 24, 2026, at a contractor facility on the West Coast. The Military Sealift Command is seeking information from interested firms to inform the development of a formal solicitation targeted for issuance on February 20, 2026.
Interested contractors must submit a voluntary capabilities package by February 18, 2026, demonstrating their qualifications to perform the work. The submission should include company profile information (employee count, locations, UEI number, CAGE Code, and small business designation), a description and location of the facility where work will be performed, business size classification under NAICS Code 336611 (Ship Building and Repair), and details on any partnerships or teaming arrangements. The notional work package encompasses six categories: General Services for Ship, tank cleaning and gas-freeing operations, Potable Water Tank Preservation, Cargo Petroleum Tank Preservation, Resilient Mount Replacement, and Cargo Crane Maintenance and Retesting. Contractors of any size or socioeconomic status may submit capabilities statements, though submission is not required to be considered for future contract opportunities. The Government will not provide compensation for any information submitted in response to this notice.
