About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Lifecycle Management Center at Hill Air Force Base is conducting a Sources Sought Synopsis to identify potential vendors for a form-fit-function replacement of the APX-125 Advanced Identification Friend-or-Foe (AIFF) Combined Interrogator Transponder (CIT) for F-16 aircraft. The procurement targets U.S.-based AIFF manufacturers with expertise in aircraft transponder and interrogation capabilities. Key contract requirements include supporting 6 test replacements in FY24-25 and up to 300 production units through FY24-27, meeting U.S. DoD security standards, and providing an AIFF CIT system with multiple operational modes. Vendors must demonstrate the ability to operate in 200F ambient temperatures, achieve Technology Readiness Level 6+ by FY25, and enter production by FY26. The response deadline is April 2, 2025, and interested parties are asked to provide details about their small business status, teaming arrangements, and similar past performance.
The synopsis indicates this procurement is potentially eligible for small business set-asides, specifically targeting 8(a), Service-Disabled Veteran Owned, HUBZone, and Women-Owned small businesses. The contract falls under NAICS code 336413 with a size standard of 1,250 employees. While specific award values are not disclosed, the procurement suggests a phased approach with 140-185 unit upgrades annually. Vendors must comply with SAE AS9100/AS9102 quality assurance standards and provide comprehensive documentation demonstrating cyber-security compliance. The Air Force is conducting market research to determine competitive sourcing strategies and assess the availability of qualified small business contractors capable of meeting the complex technical requirements for this advanced aircraft electronic system.
