About this opportunity
NIST intends to conduct market research by May 18, 2026, to identify vendors capable of supplying a Second Harmonic Generation Microscope, with results to inform whether the subsequent acquisition will be set aside for small business. This is a sources sought announcement, not a request for quotation or proposals; the Government makes no commitment to award and will not compensate respondents for information provided.
The microscope must be configured for scanning confocal imaging of electrically poled domains in thin-film lithium niobate, operating in reflection mode with high-sensitivity visible wavelength detectors (PMTs), optical filters for pump light rejection, probe beam polarization control, and high magnification objectives exceeding 50x (100x preferred). Comparable systems include Zeiss 510/780 or equivalent used or refurbished equipment. The pulsed laser excitation source must meet separate specifications comparable to Coherent Chameleon Ti:Sapphire or Spectra Mai Tai systems, and used or refurbished equipment is acceptable and preferred for cost considerations.
Deliverables include microscope control software, electronic manuals, one-year full service warranty covering labor, parts, travel, and returns, and on-site installation and training at NIST Boulder. Installation must be completed within twelve weeks of order receipt. Vendor travel to NIST Boulder is required for initial installation and training of two on-site trainees. The Government anticipates seven business days for acceptance testing. Respondents must indicate the country of manufacture for the external hardware.
NIST will evaluate whether at least two qualified small businesses can fulfill the requirement; if so, the subsequent solicitation will be set aside for small business. NAICS 334516; PSC 6640.
