About this opportunity
The USDA Agricultural Research Service is conducting market research to identify domestically sourced manufacturers or contractors capable of supplying an automated push-probe soil sampler, with a sources sought response deadline of July 6, 2026, and anticipated solicitation release on July 13, 2026. This is a total small business set-aside. No commitment or award will result from this notice; responses will inform whether ARS proceeds with an unrestricted competitive solicitation.
Place of performance is the Northwest Irrigation and Soils Research Laboratory in Kimberly, Idaho. The equipment must be domestically available and domestically sourced.
The sampler must collect soil cores to a depth of three feet and automatically separate cores into three discrete samples by depth without post-processing. The unit must have a sample tube inside diameter between and one inch, a hydraulic cylinder and hydraulic hammer, a stand-alone engine of approximately five horsepower, and a cycle time of less than 30 seconds per core collection. The equipment must weigh no more than 300 pounds, mount on a side-by-side vehicle, be GPS-enabled to record sample locations, and allow remote operation and programmable sampling depth and intervals from the driver's seat. Samples must be collected freely into open containers rather than sleeves or tubes, and the sampler must be capable of compositing samples from multiple cores into a single container.
Wintex Agro USA is identified as a currently known source. Estimated delivery is within four months after award. The NAICS category is Farm Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing (333111), and the PSC is Geophysical Instruments (6655).
