About this opportunity

The Department of the Army Materiel Command Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal is conducting market research to procure Wheel and Brake Assembly for Main Landing Gear (NSN: 1630-01-290-5740). The solicitation seeks to identify capable large and small businesses that can supply these aerospace components, with a critical requirement that vendors have access to or can demonstrate a method to accomplish the work without the Technical Data Package (TDP). Potential contractors must be an approved source and able to navigate the complex data rights situation, as the government does not own the rights to the technical data and reverse engineering is not feasible. The pre-solicitation notice, posted on December 16, 2024, requires interested vendors to submit responses by January 6, 2025, via email to carrie.l.samuels@army.mil. The acquisition is anticipated to be conducted under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 14, using sealed bidding procedures.

The pre-solicitation notice does not have a specific small business set-aside, and the NAICS code 336413 has a size standard of 3,477 employees. Currently, four known approved sources exist for this component: The Boeing Company, Parker-Hannifin Corp, Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems Corporation, and National Machine Company. The procurement seeks between 215 minimum and 1,300 maximum units, with an anticipated delivery schedule of 20 units per month beginning in July 2027. The contract is expected to be a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) agreement with a 5-year performance period, divided into five priced ordering periods. Delivery will be to the DLA Distribution DDSP New Cumberland Facility in Pennsylvania, and while no specific contract award is promised through this sources sought notice, the responses will help inform the government's acquisition decision.
