About this opportunity
The National Institute of Standards and Technology is conducting market research to identify vendors capable of supplying two compact 1156 nm fiber lasers, with responses due by June 26, 2026. This sources sought announcement is not a solicitation and does not constitute a commitment to award; NIST will use vendor responses to determine acquisition method and whether sufficient small businesses qualify to trigger a small business set-aside, which NIST states will be pursued if at least two qualified small businesses are identified.
The lasers must deliver optical power greater than 10 mW from a polarization-maintaining fiber with APC connector and polarization extinction ratio better than 20 dB, operate at 1156.839 nm with tuning range exceeding 0.35 nm, and achieve linewidth below 5 kHz at 100 microsecond integration time. Combined laser and controller dimensions must fit within 250 mm × 125 mm × 40 mm, and warranty must exceed 22 months. Slow feedback must use PZT-based tuning with bandwidth greater than 5 kHz. NIST also seeks two acoustic-optical modulators for feedback with bandwidth greater than 450 kHz, feedback range exceeding 5 MHz, and power loss below 3.5 dB. Delivery, installation, and training must complete within 12 weeks after receipt of order, with government acceptance testing planned for 7 business days. NIST specifically requests vendors indicate the country in which the product is manufactured. NAICS 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing); PSC 6640 (Laboratory Equipment and Supplies).
