About this opportunity
NASA's Shared Services Center has issued a Special Notice for Source & Detector Modification services, posted on March 30, 2026, with a submission deadline of April 1, 2026. This is a sole source procurement action under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i) authority, intended for award to NIKON METROLOGY, LLC of Brighton, Michigan. The procuring center is NASA/NSSC, with performance to be located at NASA's Langley Research Center (LARC). The procurement will be conducted as a commercial item acquisition using FAR Part 12 and Part 13 procedures. The work falls under NAICS code 811210 (Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance) and PSC code K049 (Modification of Equipment—Maintenance and Repair Shop Equipment).
The Special Notice seeks to modify a Large Volume Computed Tomographic (LVCT) system to raise both the X-ray source and detector by approximately six inches to accommodate the Mars Sample Return Earth Entry Vehicle (MSREEV). Interested organizations must submit written capabilities and qualifications to Shanna Patterson (Procurement Specialist) at Shanna.l.Patterson@nasa.gov no later than 7 a.m. Central Standard Time on April 1, 2026; oral communications are not acceptable. The Government reserves discretion to proceed with the sole source award or pursue full and open competition based on submitted capabilities. The work comprises three tasks—engineering and design, fabrication of components, and delivery and installation—with a six-month period of performance from task issuance. Nikon's status as the original LVCT manufacturer and current maintenance contract holder forms the basis for sole source justification, as alternative vendors could void the maintenance agreement and create technical compatibility issues.
