About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Nuclear Weapons Center has awarded contract FA820426FB015 on a sole-source basis for Trimble Inc. brand survey equipment, software, and training on September 1, 2026, with an estimated total value of $69.5 million.
The justification cites FAR 6.302-1, only one responsible source. The USAF requires Trimble equipment standardization to complete a technical refresh of existing CONUS and OCONUS installations and all Unit Type Code kits over seven fiscal years (2025–2031). Trimble is the sole responsible source because existing USAF inventory valued at $65.3 million runs on proprietary software incompatible with competing brands, established training infrastructure depends on Trimble systems, and joint service interoperability requirements tie the Air Force to Navy, Army, and Marine Corps assets already using Trimble equipment. Market research via a July 2024 SAM.gov sources sought notice returned responses from Trimble, Promethean General Contractors, and Hexagon US Federal; Hexagon proposed Leica Geosystems as an alternative, but the contracting officer determined it incompatible with existing systems. Procurements include 403 Trimble R12i GNSS Rover Survey System Kits, 208 each of S7 and SX12 Robotic Total Station Kits, 113 TDL 450H Radio Systems, 394 TSC7 Survey Controller Kits, 129 Auto Levels, 208 X9 Scanner Kits, 175 Trimble Business Center Suites, 110 Virtual World Suites, 18 training packages, and 24 Transmitter Laser PS930 units. Fair and reasonable pricing will be established through competition among authorized Trimble distributors, with priority given to small business vendors. The Air Force Installation Contracting Center processed the procurement, with J&A approval granted June 6, 2025.
