About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Air Combat Command is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) for a winter training airfield rental for the United States Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron (USAFADS). The RFI seeks to identify qualified vendors capable of providing an airfield that meets specific operational requirements for a 16-day annual training event in January. Interested firms are asked to provide company information, business size classification, response timeline, and transition period details. The government is conducting market research to potentially develop a future solicitation, with electronic responses due by May 3, 2025, at 10:00 am Pacific Time. Evaluation criteria include the vendor's ability to provide a location with at least 6,000 square miles of restricted airspace, a 7,000-foot runway, low population density, and favorable winter climate conditions.
The RFI does not currently have a specific set-aside designation and is open to both large and small businesses. The contract would involve renting an airfield facility that can accommodate 3-5 new Thunderbird pilots for training purposes, with requirements including hangar space, full daily airfield access, parking for 9 aircraft, and support services such as crash recovery and fire response teams. The potential contract period appears to span from 2026 to 2030, focusing on annual 16-day training events in January. While no specific budget range is mentioned, the solicitation indicates the need for comprehensive airfield infrastructure, including internet/Wi-Fi, restrooms, catering space, and proximity to a military F-16 base for maintenance support. The government emphasizes that this RFI is for planning purposes only and does not obligate them to award a contract or reimburse proposal preparation costs.
