About this opportunity
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, operating under the Department of Energy, is soliciting scaffolding services to support the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) project located in Lead, South Dakota. The procurement seeks qualified vendors capable of providing comprehensive scaffolding services, including design, procurement, delivery, assembly, inspection, certification, and disassembly of both standard and custom scaffolding systems for underground detector construction approximately 4,900 feet below the surface at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. Respondents must demonstrate current staffing capability of up to ten craftsmen, ability to provide on-site foreman supervision, experience in underground environments, availability of required certifications (NCCCO, OSHA, ANSI), engineering design capabilities, and scaffold tracking systems. The RFI submission deadline is March 20, 2026, with responses submitted electronically to mckenzie@fnal.gov, and the government anticipates releasing the RFP in April 2026 with proposals due approximately 30 days thereafter, with contract award anticipated in July or August 2026.
This RFI carries no set-aside designations and is issued for market research and acquisition planning purposes only, with no incumbent contractor identified. The anticipated contract structure is an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) subcontract with a projected three to five-year performance period supporting detector construction activities. The RFI does not commit the government to any specific budget allocation or procurement action, and participation is entirely voluntary without conferring any advantage or disadvantage in future procurement actions. Interested vendors should note that the successful contractor will be responsible for furnishing qualified management personnel, transportation, hand tools, personal protective equipment, and maintaining all necessary certifications and operational policies throughout the contract performance period.
