About this opportunity

The Environmental Protection Agency's National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory is conducting market research through a sources-sought RFI, due November 3, 2026, to identify vendors capable of supplying cordierite powder.

This is a request for information only; the EPA makes no guarantee that a solicitation or award will result. The agency seeks cordierite powder meeting the following specifications: cordierite composition (2MgO·2Al2O3·5SiO2), powder size 1–5 microns, off-white color, bulk density 0.42 g/cubic centimeter, and melting point 1,179–1,471 degrees Celsius. The required mass is 2.5 kilograms.

The agency encourages responses from vendors of all sizes. Vendors need not submit a formal capability statement; contact information and a statement of capability or interest suffice. Pricing and detailed technical specifications are not required at this stage, as cordierite powder is a commercial off-the-shelf product. Responses are not binding, and the Government will not pay any costs incurred in responding. The EPA reserves the right to determine how it will proceed based on information received and will not provide feedback to responding parties.

NAICS 325998 (All Other Miscellaneous Chemical Product and Preparation Manufacturing) and PSC 6640 (Laboratory Equipment and Supplies) apply.
