About this opportunity
The Army Materiel Command Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground is conducting a market survey for Vehicle Integrated Point Enhanced RADIAC (VIPER) development, testing, and platform integration support, with responses due by October 5, 2026. VIPER is a network-capable crew radiation monitoring system designed to replace legacy AN/VDR-2 and AN/UDR-13 systems and integrate into U.S. Army manned ground and aviation platforms to detect gamma dose rate, total dose, and prompt dose both inside and outside vehicles.
The government is seeking alternative sensor technologies beyond traditional Geiger-Muller tubes, emphasizing solid-state sensors, scintillators, or advanced semiconductor technologies that offer improved physical survivability and faster response times. The system must comply with MIL STD 810H, 461G, and 464, withstand continuous use, significant vibration, and electromagnetic interference, and integrate across multiple Army platform variants.
Respondents must address 13 specific information items covering administrative and business profiles, system capabilities and gap analysis, proposed design and technology, maintenance and calibration support, human-centered design approach, relevant experience and test data, intellectual property and licensing, manufacturing capabilities, sales information, technology readiness level, and alternative technology trade-offs. Responses are limited to 10 pages and are voluntary and non-compensable; all submissions become government property. This RFI is for market research and planning purposes only and does not constitute a commitment to contract or promise of a future RFP. Questions must be submitted by September 25, 2026. Access to a restricted CUI Technical Specification Summary requires verified security compliance including active JCP certification, current NIST SP 800-171 assessment in SPRS, CMMC Level 2 self-assessment, and signed safeguarding compliance confirmation.
Notice text
Joint Project Manager (JPM) Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) Sensing under the JPM Integrated Early Warning is conducting a market survey to identify potential industry sources capable of providing Vehicle Integrated Platform Enhanced RADIAC (VIPER) development, testing and platform integration support.
VIPER provides rapid and accurate monitoring of platform crew exposure to radiological and nuclear hazards replacing the legacy AN/VDR-2 and AN/UDR-13 systems developed in the 1970s and 1980s. It modernizes the platform mounted monitoring capabilities used across the U.S. Army’s currently fielded manned ground and aviation platforms.
This is a standalone capability designed to integrate into various Army ground-based and aviation platforms. VIPER provides network capable, integrated gamma dose rate, total dose and prompt dose detection and monitoring both inside and outside of platforms.
