About this opportunity
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center issued a Request for Information (RFI) on January 27, 2026, regarding a lunar surface Wi-Fi transceiver system. This RFI is market research only and is not a solicitation for proposals, quotations, or bids; no compensation will be provided for submitted information. The government seeks to determine industry interest and capacity among Large and Small Business contractors capable of developing and providing a Wi-Fi system that meets specified requirements. Responses are due by February 26, 2026, and interested parties must monitor www.sam.gov for any amendments or follow-on announcements. The RFI targets contractors within NAICS code 334220 (Radio and Television Broadcasting and Wireless Communications Equipment Manufacturing) and PSC 7G22 (Satellite and RF Communications Products).
The Wi-Fi transceiver system must support lunar surface operations near the Artemis Human Landing System for astronaut communications and equipment connectivity. Key technical requirements include Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) or newer capability, operation on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands, minimum 200-meter line-of-sight range with 6.5 Mbps throughput, cubesat-class dimensions, less than 1 kilogram mass, and operation in hard vacuum with thermal tolerance from -30°C to 50°C. Responses must not exceed five pages and should include company identification, CAGE code, small business status, product literature, up to three relevant past projects, technical approach for lunar adaptation, and estimated pricing. Small businesses must demonstrate self-performance of at least 50% of contract costs. The system must achieve a minimum Technology Readiness Level of TRL-6 and comply with human spaceflight material standards, outgassing requirements per ASTM E595, and radiation tolerance of 10 krad(Si) with single event effect immunity exceeding 75 MeVcm2/mg.
