About this opportunity

The Naval Information Warfare Systems Command, operating under the Department of the Navy, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) concerning an Environmental Satellite Ground Station. Posted on April 15, 2026, this Special Notice was announced without a set-aside restriction and seeks input from the contracting community regarding systems designed to receive, process, and display satellite imagery for polar operations. The RFI represents an effort to gather market research and technical insights prior to formal solicitation. Responses are due by June 1, 2026. This opportunity is managed by the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic Polar Programs Integrated Product Team in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP).

The underlying purpose of this RFI is to identify viable solutions for upgrading the meteorological data collection and dissemination capabilities supporting U.S. Antarctic operations. Specifically, NIWC Atlantic seeks to modernize systems that receive and process satellite imagery from polar-orbiting weather satellites, complementing existing fixed-based sensor groups and enhancing weather observation and forecasting capabilities. While no specific eligibility restrictions are noted in this Special Notice, interested contractors should submit their responses by the June 1, 2026 deadline. The RFI will inform the government's development of requirements and acquisition strategy for a new Environmental Satellite Ground Station system. Contractors with expertise in satellite ground station operations, polar meteorological systems, and related data processing and display technologies are encouraged to participate and share their technical capabilities and solutions.

Notice text

The Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic Polar Programs, Integrated Product Team (NPP) supports the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) through acquisition, deployment, and sustainment of systems, equipment, and operational services for the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). A key component of this support is the operational services and the collection of data from meteorological sensing systems used in the observing and forecasting of weather conditions. This includes data from fixed-based sensor groups and satellite imagery from a variety of polar-orbiting weather satellites. A new system to receive, process, and display this satellite imagery is the basis of this RFI.
