About this opportunity
The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Lifecycle Management Center at Wright Patterson Air Force Base has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for a Resilient Embedded Global Positioning System (GPS)/Inertial Navigation System (R-EGI) design agent. This special notice seeks industry feedback on completing the development of a modernized positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) system designed to enhance robustness and resiliency across military aircraft platforms. The RFI targets potential contractors who can work collaboratively with existing subcontractors including Kearfott, GDMS, Collins, Sechan, and IS4S to advance the R-EGI program's technological capabilities. The primary focus platforms include F-16 post-block aircraft, F-15E/EX, with potential future expansion to B-52, AC/MC-130, and F-18 aircraft. The government anticipates a competitive contract award in fiscal year 2027.
Contractors interested in this opportunity must be capable of obtaining SECRET clearance and demonstrate expertise in Agile software development, Model Based Systems Engineering, and Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) requirements. The R-EGI program includes a 70/30 split between Organic and Contractor Logistics Support, with Robins AFB designated as the organic depot for hardware, software, and crypto maintenance. Respondents will be expected to complete hardware and software development, provide Production Representative Units (PRUs), and deliver a Level 3 Technical Data Package. The Air Force plans to maintain Operational System Safety and Engineering (OSS&E) authority throughout the development process. Potential contractors may be invited to an Industry Day event in Spring 2025, and the RFI response deadline is April 4, 2025. The program will include a two-year Interim Contractor Support period to facilitate initial fielding of the new navigation system.
