About this opportunity
The Federal Aviation Administration's Southwestern Region is seeking remediation services to address contaminated soil at two sites on the former FAA Station at Summit Airport near Cantwell, Alaska. The procurement requires contractors to develop a work plan for soil remediation and sampling in accordance with Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation guidance, then execute the remediation work following the approved plan. Contractors must provide a detailed technical approach for remediating large volumes of contaminated soil at this remote but accessible location, coordinating all field activities with the FAA Project Manager with 14-day advance notice requirements. The work involves various field functions related to contaminated soil remediation and groundwater sampling, with all safety, security, and site access factors requiring coordination with FAA Regional and District personnel. This pre-solicitation notice was posted on September 18, 2025, with responses due by September 29, 2025.
This opportunity is designated as a Competitive 8(a) set-aside under NAICS code 562910 for Remediation Services. The remedial action must be completed within a two-summer construction season timeframe, reflecting the challenging logistics of the remote Alaskan location approximately 200 miles north of Anchorage and 9 miles south of Cantwell. The Summit airfield is accessible via a small gravel road from the Parks Highway, with local lodging available in Cantwell. The project presents unique challenges as there is no on-site source for backfill material, requiring contractors to address material sourcing in their technical approach. The FAA is conducting market research through this pre-solicitation to better understand contractor capabilities and approaches for this specialized environmental remediation requirement.
