Notice text
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded a requirement for enhanced protection to the personnel working underground at the Lake Lynn Experimental Mine. This will be partially accomplished through the installation of a tunnel liner with backfill to the mine roof and ribs (walls). This tunnel liner will extend 640 ft into an alternate escapeway from just outside a portal. The tunnel liner will provide permanent support irrespective of future stability issues or developments and will meet the requirements of preserving the facility for future research needs. Enhanced personnel protection from roof falls and the long-term viability of the mine will also be accomplished through the installation of rock and cable bolts and meshing across the mine roof and partially down each rib/pillar (wall) and through the application of shotcrete in other needed sections of both escapeways.
