PROJECT DESCRIPTION
President's Park (White House) (WHHO) in Washington, DC, seeks a skilled contractor to perform regilding on the First Division Monument. The monument commemorates those who died while serving in the 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army of World War I and subsequent wars.
The existing gilding of the Winged Victory Statue and gilded lettering on the First Division Monument are reaching or have reached the end of their useful lifecycle. The finishes have deteriorated from general weathering and exposure since the last restoration in the early 2000s. The result is that the current appearance deviates from the original artistic intent. Full restoration is required to install new and durable finishes and to reinstate the artist's original artistic intent.
The work required includes cleaning and regilding the winged Statue of Victory and the engraved letters on the west granite wall of the monument.
Winged Statue of Victory: This gilded bronze statue is of a female figure, approximately 15¿ in height and holding a proportionately sized flag. The complete statue sits atop an eighty-foot-high granite column.
West Granite Wall Letter Gilding: The west face of the west granite wall, of the west wing of the First Division Memorial, contains within it, engraved letters which read ¿THE FIRST DIVISION¿.
This work will require working in close proximity of active construction. As such, the gilding and bronze work must be scheduled to minimize impacts to other trades.
In compliance with FAR 22.403-1, Construction Wage Rate Requirements, the prevailing wage rates will apply.
USDA BioPreferred product categories apply to this acquisition. For more information regarding the Department of Agriculture Biobased Program go to: http://www.biopreferred.gov.
